About
Taylor Moore is an award-winning investigative journalist in Chicago who writes about politics, social justice and the environment. She has been published in The Guardian, VICE, TIME, The New Republic, Columbia Journalism Review, In These Times, CityLab, Next City, Chicago Reader, WBEZ, Block Club Chicago, South Side Weekly and other news outlets.
In 2022, she was part of a Guardian US team that used public water testing data to reveal the depths of Chicago’s lead pipe crisis. The investigation spurred 14 U.S. Senators to call on the EPA to lower the levels of lead allowable in drinking water, require all lead pipes to be replaced in the next decade, and ensure that low-income neighborhoods can benefit equally from the remediation efforts. In 2023, she was a reporting apprentice with the Investigative Project on Race & Equity, where she co-reported an award-winning investigation into racial discrimination in Illinois traffic stops.
She is currently the program specialist for Press Forward Chicago, housed at The Chicago Community Trust. Press Forward Chicago is the local affiliate of Press Forward — a national initiative led by the MacArthur Foundation to raise unprecedented resources to revitalize local news, supercharge proven solutions to the local news crises, and close longstanding inequities in journalism coverage and practice.
Previously, she was an associate program manager for the International Women’s Media Foundation, where she led a grant program that disbursed more than $230,000 a year to women and nonbinary journalists of all nationalities; a mentorship program for underrepresented journalists and a prestigious fellowship in collaboration with The Boston Globe, The New York Times and MIT’s Center for International Studies. She also managed the IWMF’s journalism awards.
She has served on the Chicago chapter boards of the Asian American Journalists Association and the Society of Professional Journalists. In 2023, she was co-lead for FOIA Fest Boot Camp, a mentorship program for early-career journalists of color interested in investigative journalism.
Born in China, she was raised in Orlando, Florida, and graduated from the University of Central Florida.
